Decorative Paper

Our books on techniques for decorating paper were a natural venue for Claudia’s extensive collection of paste, marbled, block-printed, stencilled and dyed papers. Her first book on the subject, Chasing Paper, led us to develop Decorating Paper, a two-volume exploration of the many techniques used to create coloured and patterned papers. In it we describe the history, as well as the detailed processes of each technique and offer hundreds of original samples. This endlessly fascinating topic led to Suminagashi, a miniature showcase of the Japanese marbling technique on various papers, and to Marbled Paper, which explores the effect of different papers on the appearance of marbling.
